In most healthcare settings, families travel from specialist to specialist, repeating their child’s story at every stop and waiting weeks between appointments. Cure 4 The Kids Foundation does it differently. As Nevada’s only dedicated outpatient treatment center for pediatric cancer and rare diseases, we bring expert specialty care together under one roof. Our size and the range of specialists we bring together let us offer families something unique to healthcare in Nevada.
Our comprehensive clinics bring an entire team of specialists together in a single coordinated visit. Instead of scheduling appointments across months and locations, your child can see their physician, nurse practitioner, pharmacist, and other members of their care team all in one place, on one day, working together as one team.
A comprehensive clinic is a coordinated appointment where a child with a complex or chronic condition meets with multiple specialists during a single visit, once per year, rather than seeing each provider separately over many appointments. Because several disciplines are involved, these visits are also known as multidisciplinary clinics. The two terms describe the same model of care.
During a typical follow-up at Cure 4 The Kids Foundation, a patient sees their physician or nurse practitioner. A comprehensive clinic is different. In one visit, a child may see as many as seven or eight members of their care team, often including:
The difference is real collaboration. While your child moves through their visit, their providers meet together in a conference room and discuss each patient’s case in real time, almost like a live case conference. Everyone caring for your child is in the same conversation, on the same day, looking at the same information.
That collaboration removes two of the biggest burdens families carry. It eases the travel and time burden, because a year’s worth of specialist visits happens in a single appointment. And it removes the communication gaps that so often appear when a child’s care is spread across separate offices that rarely talk to one another.
This is something outside care teams have noticed. Other multidisciplinary programs have told us we excel at the genuine teamwork our model makes possible, the kind of camaraderie that is difficult to build when specialists work in separate buildings.
Comprehensive clinic visits are around 2 hours—longer than a typical appointment, and that length is by design. Lab draws, evaluations, and care discussions happen in real time, and your team coordinates any imaging or specialty referrals your child’s diagnosis calls for before you leave. Your family goes home with a clear understanding of your child’s health and a personalized plan for the year ahead.
Just as important, these visits are built around education and independence. Our team believes in doing more than treating a diagnosis. We want each patient and family to understand their condition, feel confident managing it, and have the tools to thrive, not simply live alongside it. That’s why providers take time to teach, and why families go home with tangible materials they can return to or share with a caregiver, teacher, or relative who helps with care.
With 18+ providers, we’re proud to offer our patients a full team under one roof.
Our comprehensive clinics serve children with conditions that benefit from coordinated, lifelong, team-based care:
For brain and nervous system tumors, tumor predisposition syndromes such as neurofibromatosis (NF1 and NF2) and tuberous sclerosis complex, and other complex neuro-oncologic conditions.
For hemophilia, von Willebrand disease, platelet function disorders, and related bleeding and clotting conditions.
For sickle cell disease of all types, thalassemia, and other inherited red blood cell disorders.
The Storybook Homes Long-Term Follow-Up Clinic for Childhood Cancer Survivors is for patients who have completed cancer therapy and require ongoing monitoring for late effects of treatment while promoting lifelong health and wellness.
Many of the conditions we care for require monitoring and support that lasts well beyond a single diagnosis or treatment. Bringing specialists together in one coordinated visit helps families identify concerns early, keep care aligned across disciplines, navigate school and daily life, and plan ahead with confidence. Above all, it keeps the focus where it belongs: on your child’s long-term health and well-being, not just the moment in front of us.
Yes. Both terms describe the same model of care, where a child sees multiple specialists in one coordinated visit. At C4K we most often call them comprehensive clinics.
It varies by condition and need, but children are typically seen by multiple members of their care team in a single appointment.
These visits are longer than a standard appointment because so much is accomplished at once. Families should plan for around 2 hours, with the benefit of completing a year’s worth of coordinated care in one trip.
For most conditions, comprehensive clinic visits are scheduled once a year, with regular follow-up care in between as needed.
Whether you’re a family looking to learn more about our comprehensive clinics or a provider hoping to refer a patient, we’re here to help. Our team will walk you through what to expect and answer any questions along the way.
