Expert Specialists. Real Education. Confidence for Everyday Life.

Living with a bleeding or clotting disorder means planning ahead for everyday moments most families never think twice about, from a sports practice to a dental visit to an unexpected injury. The Bleeding & Clotting Disorders Comprehensive Clinic at Cure 4 The Kids Foundation brings an entire team of specialists together to help your family manage your child’s condition with confidence.

Our team works collaboratively to care for patients living with bleeding and clotting disorders. Through comprehensive evaluations, education, and long-term monitoring, we help patients and families manage their condition and reduce the risk of complications throughout life.

What Is the Bleeding & Clotting Disorders Comprehensive Clinic?

The Bleeding & Clotting Disorders Comprehensive Clinic (BCDC) is a coordinated clinic where children and patients with bleeding and clotting disorders are cared for by an entire team of specialists in a single visit. Because these conditions touch so many parts of daily life, this team-based approach keeps every aspect of care working together.

The C4K Bleeding & Clotting Disorders Comprehensive Clinic Cares for Patients With:

These conditions can affect daily activities, sports participation, travel, school, surgeries, dental procedures, and emergency medical care. Ongoing education and specialized planning are important parts of helping patients safely manage their condition.

What Makes This Clinic Different?

During a visit, families meet with several members of our care team in one coordinated appointment. This may include a pediatric hematologist, nurse practitioner, clinical pharmacist, physical therapist, genetic counselor, a social worker, and other specialists as needed. Together they address the medical, educational, emotional, and practical aspects of living with a bleeding or clotting disorder while building a personalized care plan.

What sets this clinic apart is its focus on education and preparedness. Many patients leave with a personalized bleed plan: a clear, take-home guide that explains exactly what to do, and what others should do, in the event of an unexpected bleed. For families, that plan turns an uncertain moment into a prepared one, and it gives schools, caregivers, and outside providers the same clear instructions.

One team also helps families put school support in place. Working with our education team, we help arrange the accommodations (often called a 504 Plan) a child may need during the school day, from regular access to water and rest to other supports that keep them safe and thriving in the classroom.

What Should Families Expect During a Visit?

Comprehensive clinic visits are longer than a typical follow-up appointment—often around 2 hours—but they are designed to make care easier, not harder. Evaluations, lab results, and care discussions happen in real time, so your family leaves with a clear understanding of your child’s health and next steps.

Lab work is part of that convenience. Because Cure 4 The Kids Foundation has an on-site lab team, your child’s labs are drawn at the start of the visit and results are ready before you leave, so there’s no separate trip to a lab and no waiting days for answers.

Our pharmacy team spends meaningful time on medication education, reviewing your child’s current medications, checking for possible interactions, and making sure you feel comfortable and confident with their treatment plan. Our team stays current on newer therapies and will talk through options when they may benefit your child. During these visits, our team may also help families plan ahead for upcoming medical or dental procedures, discuss how to travel safely, and arrange any imaging or specialty referrals your child’s diagnosis calls for before you leave.

Why Comprehensive Care Matters

Bleeding and clotting disorders affect much more than laboratory values. Patients often need ongoing education and support to safely navigate everyday life.

Comprehensive clinic visits help families:

Prepare for surgeries

as well as dental procedures and other medical interventions

Develop emergency treatment plans

so your family knows what steps to take and when

Understand medication safety

and potential drug interactions

Participate safely

in school, sports, and other activities

Learn how to travel

safely with their condition

Build confidence

in managing bleeding episodes and treatment plans

Comprehensive clinic visits also help patients and families prepare for unexpected situations by reviewing emergency treatment plans, discussing when to seek medical attention, and ensuring families understand how to communicate their diagnosis to schools, healthcare providers, and other caregivers.
