SUMMARY:
The Per Diem Pharmacists primary focus is to oversee the operations of pharmacy services within Cure 4 The Kids Foundation for the outpatient dispensing pharmacy. The pharmacist will collaborate with staff within the organization to ensure patient safety and maintain an environment of quality improvement. The per Diem Pharmacist will maintain all aspects of a USP 797 & USP 800 compliant pharmacy; including maintaining an appropriate inventory of drugs and supplies, as well as preparing medications for dispensing to patients at Cure 4 The Kids Foundation. The Pharmacist must be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a Joint Commission accredited facility.

This is a per diem position that reports directly to the Chief Nursing Officer.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

a) Adhere to established goals and objectives for patient pharmacy dispensing services.
b) Assure compliance with standards of practice from accreditation organizations

  • Joint Commission
  • United States Pharmacopeia
  • Nevada State Board of Pharmacy

c) Develop and maintain a system and program of performance improvement.
d) Seek innovative ways to reduce/contain costs and ensure quality services.
e) Work with billing to ensure appropriate charge and capture of services are rendered.
f) Consult with medical practitioners on prescription drugs, patient reactions, and errors.
g) Dispense prescribed drugs in a healthcare facility environment.
h) Pharmacist performs routine administrative tasks required to keep the patient pharmacy running smoothly.
i) Must be familiar with sterile environment (biohazard safety cabinet) procedures, including using proper personal protection equipment (PPE).
j) Maintain proper storage and security conditions for the inventory including hazardous medications. LASA, controlled substances, etc.
k) Prepare medications with proper labeling.
l) Clean and maintain equipment and work areas.
m) Order, stock and count all inventory, using the Nucleus to its fullest capabilities.
n) Communicate all pertinent drug and medical supply information to other members of the clinical team; including drug and equipment re-calls, shortages and/or supply issues.
o) Prepare for dispensing and administration the following medications per provider orders according to established protocol, policy and procedures

  • Chemotherapy
  • Antibiotics
  • Intravenous medications and solutions
  • Oral drugs
