This is a role that requires a multi-disciplinary team approach to solving problems and patient challenges. SUMMARY: Employee will perform clinical and administrative tasks under the supervision of the Supervisor of Clinical Services and Quality and in collaboration with other team members. The Medical Assistant (MA I) provides direct and indirect patient care in accordance with professional standards of care, state regulations, and accreditation standards.



a. MA I will perform routine administrative and clinical tasks to keep the offices of physicians and other health practitioners running smoothly.
b. MA I will perform many administrative duties including answering telephones, greeting patients, pulling charts, and updating patient information in the electronic medical records.
c. MA I may also arrange examining room instruments and equipment, purchase and maintain supplies and equipment, and keep waiting and examining rooms neat and clean. They constantly interact with other people and may have to handle several responsibilities at once.

Clinic Duties may include but are not limited to the following: Assists medical and nursing staff in a variety of tasks including:

a. Documents medical history and records vital signs
b. Explains treatment procedures to patients
c. Prepares patients for examinations and procedures
d. Assists the physician, APN or RN during the examination and procedures
e. Draws blood, collects and prepares other laboratory specimens
f. Performs basic laboratory tests on the premises, disposes of contaminated supplies
g. Sterilizes medical instruments. Promotes patient/family understanding of the educational content and his/her involvement in the plan of care, and documents in patient record.
h. Prepares and administers medications as directed by a physician
i. Authorizes drug refills as directed
j. Telephones prescriptions to a pharmacy.
k. Prepares patients for tests and procedures.
l. Changes sterile and non-sterile dressings.
m. Performs other clinical functions as delegated and supervised by a physician.
n. Monitors vital signs of infusion patients and monitors for infusion reactions.
o. Maintains adequate inventory of examination room supplies and prepares exam rooms at the beginning and end of day and between each patient contact.
p. Performs a variety of office responsibilities: answers phones and takes messages and performs triage with practice in an accurate and timely manner.
